SUPPLEMENTS
What is really worth your money?
Although supplements are NOT magic, they can certainly help optimize your results. I have made a list of supplements I highly recommend. They are listed in the order of importance, in my personal opinion.
I purchase all my supplements through idealfit.com
At checkout use code: “rachelfit” to receive 10% off any order. You can also use the code on top of any other sale or promotion they have going on.
Protein Powder – A common problem I have seen through working with different clients is protein intake. If you are not used to consuming the correct amount of protein, it can be difficult to fit in your daily requirements through only food sources. Protein powder is a great way to ensure you are hitting your protein intake each day.
I recommend blending 1-2 scoops (depending on your macros) with almond milk and half a frozen banana in the blender. It is delicious and very filling.
I also recommend heating up water (it can’t be HOT or it will cook the protein, so make it very warm) and adding 1-2 scoops of the Mint Chocolate Chip and it tastes like Christmas in a cup. Its my all time favorite way to have protein powder and I drink this every morning!
My favorite flavors are – Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Coconut and Chocolate Peanut Butter.
Branch Chain Amino Acids (bcaa’s) - BCAAs are made up of three essentials amino, leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are essential because the body is unable to make them out of other amino acids, meaning they must be ingested through food or supplements because your body does not naturally produce them.
I recommend 1 scoop per day (you can have up to 3 per day if preferred) I mix it into a shaker cup and sip on it during my workout.
My Favorite Flavors are – Orange Paradise, Blueberry Pomegranate (sweet), Raspberry Lemonade (tart)
Pre-Work Out – Pre-workout is a great way to ensure you have great lifts. I personally take pre-workouts almost every day about 15 minutes before I work out. I take it at home, as soon as I get home from work before I head to the gym. It will help your blood flow, has caffeine and will improve strength and endurance.
I recommend starting with a ½ scoop until you can take 1 full scoop before you lift. You don’t need to take it every day but when you are lifting bigger body parts or seem extra tired or less motivated, it is a game changer.
My Favorite Flavors – Lemon-Lime, Cherry-Limeade
Multivitamin – Taking a multi every day is important for your overall health and daily functions. Especially when dieting, it can be difficult for your body to receive all of its vitamins and minerals from food sources alone. Taking a Multi ensures your body is receiving all of the nutrients that are essential each day. The Multivitamin I use from IdealFit, also has a beauty complex in it!
Probiotic – A probiotic can be extremely beneficial, especially if you are experiencing any type of bloating or indigestion. I personally take a probiotic one a day, right before bed. It certainly helps with overall gut health and intolerance to specific foods.
I recommend taking 1 serving at night OR as needed.
CLA – Like fish oil, CLA is an essential fatty acid. Its aids in muscle retention, especially during fat loss.
I recommend taking one pill with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
L-Carnitine – L-Carnitine aids in transporting fatty acids throughout your body to be used as energy.
I recommend taking 1 serving first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
If you were to only purchase one or two things from this list, I would recommend a Protein Powder and Pre-Workout. Both supplements will assist you the most in reaching your overall goals. The protein powder will ensure you are hitting your protein requirement to maintain your muscle mass which has a direct correlation with your metabolism and the pre-workout will assist you in the gym to ensure you are getting the most out of your lifts. There are stimulated (with caffeine) and non-stimulated (without caffeine) options for pre-workout!
